Day 1

Thabana Ntlenyana Tour

  • Depart Underberg at 08:00
  • Guided 4×4 ascent of the iconic Sani Pass
  • Visit a traditional Basotho homestead with fresh bread tasting and cultural insights
  • Travel 60 km deeper into Lesotho to the remote village of Makhapung
  • Meet a traditional healer and experience ceremonial Basotho dancing
  • Optional additional 1hr horse ride (not included)
  • Explore the historic trading town of Mokhotlong
  • Lunch at a local Basotho restaurant
  • Dinner and overnight at a comfortable local lodge
Day 2

Thabana Ntlenyana Summit

  • Early breakfast at the lodge
  • Full-day guided hike to Thabana Ntlenyana (3,482 m)
  • Approximate hiking time: 9–10 hours (round trip)
  • Enjoy a packed lunch on the summit with panoramic views across the highlands
  • Descend and return to Underberg by approximately 17:00

This is one of Lesotho’s most demanding and rewarding mountain adventures, perfect for hikers seeking a true sense of achievement and a rare journey into the wild heart of the “Kingdom in the Sky.”

Important Travel Information

Our tours typically depart from and return to the Grind Cafe in Underberg (view map). Alternatively we can pick you up from any of our listed nearby accommodations. If you’re staying within Underberg or Himeville but don’t see your accommodation listed in our pick up menu please contact us and we’ll confirm if a complimentary pick up will be possible.

Meeting time is 8:00 AM (Please note that departure times may vary if you are being picked up from your accommodation – in this case we will confirm your exact pick up time with you).

We will return at approximately 5.00 PM on day 2.

Warmer Months (October – March):
Opt for lightweight clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. We also always recommend carrying a warm jacket, as temperatures may drop suddenly.

Colder Months (April – September):
Dress in warm layers, with outerwear suitable for snow, closed shoes, and accessories like a beanie and scarf.

No expired passports or copies will be accepted.
Kindly note that if you join the tour and are denied entry into Lesotho due to not having the required visa or valid passport, you will need to wait at the South African Border Post either until the tours returns, or a transfer at your own expense is available. No refund will be provided.
