This immersive journey takes you from the iconic Sani Pass to the legendary Katse Dam, across the highlands to Mokhotlong and Leribe, through historic villages and ancient caves, and all the way to the mighty Maletsunyane Falls in Semonkong.

Designed for travellers who want to experience more than just the highlights, this tour offers authentic cultural encounters, breathtaking mountain scenery, historic landmarks and true “Roof of Africa” exploration — all led by an experienced professional guide in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle.

DAY 1 – Sani Pass to Mokhotlong Highlands

Departure: Underberg at 09:00 (Breakfast not included)
Your journey begins with a guided 4×4 ascent up the legendary Sani Pass, one of Africa’s most spectacular mountain roads.
Lunch at The Highest Pub in Africa (subject to availability) or a lovely local restaurant (Lunch included)
Basotho homestead visit with traditional bread tasting and cultural insights
Scenic drive over Black Mountain, Lesotho’s highest drivable pass
Visit the remote village of Makhapung for traditional song and dance
Explore the historic 100-year-old St James Mission
Tour the trading town of Mokhotlong
Late afternoon check-in at a local lodge. Enjoy dinner and drinks around the fire before a comfortable overnight stay. (Dinner not included)

DAY 2 – Katse Dam & Leribe Region

DAY 3 – History, Heritage & Semonkong

Visit historic Thaba Bosiu Village
Explore ancient Bushman Rock Paintings
Discover the fascinating Kome Caves
Lunch stop at a local restaurant in Maseru (Lunch not included)
Late afternoon arrival at Semonkong Lodge for dinner and overnight stay. (Dinner not included)

DAY 4 – Maletsunyane Falls & Return Journey

Early breakfast – 07:00 (Breakfast included)
Enjoy a walk or 4×4 drive to the magnificent Maletsunyane Falls (Semonkong Falls)
Begin the scenic return journey to Underberg via the Qacha’s Nek border
Lunch stop in Matatiele (Lunch not included)
Arrival back in Underberg at approximately 16:30.

WHAT TO BRING / WEAR

Warmer Months (October – March):
Lightweight, comfortable active clothing and shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. We also recommend packing a warm jacket, as mountain temperatures can change quickly.
Colder Months (April – September):
Warm layered clothing, weather-appropriate outerwear (especially for snow), closed shoes, and winter accessories such as beanies and scarves.

DEPARTURE/RETURN LOCATION

Our tours typically depart from our office which is located next door to the Grind Cafe in Underberg (view map). Alternatively we can pick you up from any of our listed nearby accommodations. If you’re staying within Underberg or Himeville but don’t see your accommodation listed in our pick up menu please contact us and we’ll confirm if a complimentary pick up will be possible.

DEPARTURE/RETURN TIME

Meeting time is 8.00 AM for a 8:15 AM departure (Please note that departure times may vary if you are being picked up from your accommodation – in this case we will confirm your exact pick up time with you).
We will return at approximately 5.00 PM.

Kindly note that no expired passports or copies will be accepted.
If you join the tour and are denied entry into Lesotho due to not having the required visa, valid passport or paper work no refunds or credits will be provided.

Lesotho On Track Cancellation Policy:

50% cancellation fee applies to cancellations made more than 14 days prior to the tour date.


100% cancellation fee applies to cancellations made within 14 days of the tour date.

In addition, please note that each individual accommodation / restaurant establishment we use has its own cancellation policy, and those specific terms will apply where relevant.
Should a cancellation occur, any non-refundable accommodation deposits or entrance fees charged by the respective establishments will be deducted from the refund amount.

Snow & Pass Conditions:

Winter conditions in the high mountains can be unpredictable. In the event that snow conditions make it uncertain whether our destination can be reached, we offer the following options:

  1. Proceed with the tour as far as safely possible, based on road and weather conditions. No refund will be applicable in this case.
  2. Reschedule the tour to a later date, subject to availability. No refund will be issued.

If the road through to our destination is closed by border authorities before the scheduled departure, guests may choose between:

A 90% refund (10% retained for administrative and online booking fees), or
Rescheduling the tour to a later date.
