Immerse yourself in Basotho culture at a traditional homestead with freshly baked bread, storytelling, and a Basotho blanket demonstration, before ascending Black Mountain to admire Thabana Ntlenyana, Southern Africa’s highest peak. Explore the remote village of Makhapung, meet a local healer, and witness traditional dancing, then discover the historic town of Mokhotlong. The adventure concludes with lunch at Sani Top and a scenic descent back to Underberg.

Kindly note that The Highest Pub in Africa charges an entrance fee of R200 per adult and R100 per child under 12. This fee is not included in our tour price, as visits to the pub are subject to availability. Should your tour include a stop at the Highest Pub, the entrance fee will be payable on the day. This fee is however redeemable at the restaurant and bar and will be deducted from your bill.

Due to the lodges limited capacity, The Highest Pub in Africa are only able to welcome guests with prior reservations. Kindly note that the pub has a maximum capacity of 40 guests per day so although we do our best to secure reservations in advance, availability cannot always be guaranteed.

The Lesotho Day Trip kicks off from either Underberg or Himeville. Departure times may vary depending on where your guesthouse is situated.
8:45AM
We’ll make a brief stop at the South African Border Post, situated at the base of the Sani Pass.
10:30 – 11:15
On reaching the summit we will make another brief stop to stamp passports at the Lesotho Border Post. Do some local curio shopping & visit an authentic Basotho home.
11:30AM
Visit Black Mountain & the Thabana Ntlenyana view point.
12:30PM
We arrive for a tour around the bustling trading town of Mokhotlong.
1:00PM
Visit the secluded village of Makhapung, meet the local traditional healer and get to witness an authentic ceremonial dance.
2:00PM
OPTIONAL
Enjoy a late lunch at either the Highest Pub in Africa or a local Basotho restaurant before we begin our descent down the Sani Pass.

Return to Underberg / Himeville.
