Venture deep into the Mountain Kingdom on this unforgettable day trip, traveling 60 km beyond the iconic Sani Pass. Begin with the thrilling climb up the legendary pass in a comfortable 4×4, taking in sweeping views of the Drakensberg cliffs and valleys. Immerse yourself in Basotho culture at a traditional homestead with freshly baked bread, storytelling, and a Basotho blanket demonstration, before ascending Black Mountain to admire Thabana Ntlenyana, Southern Africa’s highest peak. Explore the remote village of Makhapung, meet a local healer, and witness traditional dancing, then discover the historic town of Mokhotlong. The adventure concludes with lunch at Sani Top and a scenic descent back to Underberg.

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, we offer several lunch options during our tour. Please review each option below and select your preference when making your booking. Your choice is needed for us to make the necessary arrangements in advance.

Kindly note that The Highest Pub in Africa charges an entrance fee of R200 per adult and R100 per child under 12. This fee is not included in our tour price, as visits to the pub are subject to availability. Should your tour include a stop at the Highest Pub, the entrance fee will be payable on the day. This fee is however redeemable at the restaurant and bar and will be deducted from your bill.

Due to the lodges limited capacity, The Highest Pub in Africa are only able to welcome guests with prior reservations. Kindly note that the pub has a maximum capacity of 40 guests per day so although we do our best to secure reservations in advance, availability cannot always be guaranteed.

Our Lesotho day trip typically depart from and return to the Grind Cafe in Underberg (view map). Alternatively we can pick you up from any of our listed nearby accommodations. If you’re staying within Underberg or Himeville but don’t see your accommodation listed in our pick up menu please contact us and we’ll confirm if a complimentary pick up will be possible. 

DEPARTURE/RETURN TIME

Meeting time is 8:00 AM for a 8:15 AM departure (Please note that departure times may vary if you are being picked up from your accommodation – in this case we will confirm your exact pick up time with you)
We will return at approximately 5:00-5:30 PM.

WHAT TO WEAR

Warmer Months (October – March): Opt for lightweight clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. We also always recommend carrying a warm jacket, as temperatures may drop suddenly.
Colder Months (April – September): Dress in warm layers, with outerwear suitable for snow, closed shoes, and accessories like a beanie and scarf.
